Gardening at home is a great way to improve your health and well-being. Though you may be a good gardener, you can always learn more. Educating yourself is an easy way to improve. Here, in this article, you will get some wonderful information to help you have a better garden.
When you are working on your garden, you should always be sure to have a good product to kneel on. There are many products that are especially designed for gardening, and these are incredibly important as they allow you to feel more relaxed and comfortable as well as protecting your knees.
Develop an irrigation system for your lawn. A good sprinkler system aims to reach all the points of the yard with an even spread of water. Overwatering in one section can cause you to have nice green growth, but have other areas grow brown from neglect or lack of water. A proper irrigation system should hit all of the areas of your lawn.
Evergreens are best planted at least four weeks before the ground freezes. This will allow the tree to establish some roots before the soil freezes in the late fall. Evergreens do not drop their leaves in the fall, but continue to lose moisture, so it is important to get them in the ground well before the first frost.
About three weeks before planting your garden build up your soil by adding some organic matter. Organic matter, such as compost and fertilizer, improves the condition of your soil by adding nutrients and helping the soil to better retain water. You can buy bags of organic matter at garden stores, or in the gardening section of most hardware stores.
Chickens

If you have chickens, let them roam through your garden once in awhile. Their manure can act as a wonderful, natural fertilizer. As it breaks down, it releases nutrients that are essential to plant life. You can even do this over the winter, making the ground ripe with fertilizer and ready for Spring planting.
Chicken tractors are great for fertilizing your prospective garden area. Chicken tractors are mobile chicken coops. Not only can you move the coop as needed, but the tractor has no permanent floor, so you can feed the chickens in whatever area of your garden needs fertilizing. This will allow chickens to eat the vegetation and the bugs, and deposit fertilizer at the same time. Once a certain area is completed, you can pull the chicken tractor to the next area.
As we discussed at the beginning of this article, you can improve your gardening skills by educating yourself. When you are educated, you will know where to focus your efforts to have a better yield. Use the fantastic tips you learned here, and you will be destined for gardening success.

If ever there were a quiet, simple and relaxing way to enjoy life, it most certainly is gardening! Cultivating beautiful flowers and harvesting healthy food is a great way to spend time and is about as far from hectic life as you can get, from right in your own back yard! This article is full of helpful ideas on making the experience of gardening, an even better one for you!
Try planting a ‘one-color’ garden bed. While this takes quite a bit of work, due to the limitations of the color palette, it can create a very striking visual. The emphasis is placed more on shape and structure, and it is especially helpful in a small garden, as it makes the area appear much larger. Remember that ‘one-color’ doesn’t mean a single shade. Use all shades in the color palette. For example a blue garden can feature flowers in shades of blue, purple and mauve.
Turn your pile often to expose more areas to open air. If you don’t turn your pile it can have a tendency to only decay on the top layers. Good decaying rate requires air pockets, proper watering, and occasionally turning the material so you get a more homogenous mixture. Just by shifting the pile a bit you can open up air spots that will help to speed up the growth of bacteria.
When planting a new rose bush, be sure to prune the canes to about eight inches before you plant the rose in the ground. Also, remove decayed wood at the ends of the canes. Pruning a new rose will encourage it to grow more quickly. Keep in mind when you are pruning, try and cut the canes at a 45-degree angle to help the plant to shed water.
If you plan to be a gardener, start with the right tools. A hoe, rake, hose, and spade are the minimum that you will need. Planting without these supplies will be difficult, time consuming, and sometimes even impossible. Many garden centers offer "getting started kits” with all of the supplies you will need.
Plant larger plants like trees or shrubbery in the fall to encourage strong root development. Since the ground is still warm compared to the air temperature and the plants do not have leaves to grow and support it, their resources will be concentrated in the root system, thus creating a strong foundation.
A great tip to consider when gardening is that you can stop jamming from occurring with your string trimmer simply by spraying it with cooking spray or vegetable oil before loading it. This is a great tip because it is an easy way to prevent frustration and wasted time in the future.

Chickens

As it breaks down, it releases nutrients that are essential to plant life. You can even do this over the winter, making the ground ripe with fertilizer and ready for Spring planting.
You might want to think about fertilizing your potential garden area with a chicken tractor. Chicken tractors are moveable chicken coops with sheltered areas and open floors. A chicken tractor protects your poultry and allows them to graze specific areas of your garden while also naturally fertilizing it. Simply pull over your chicken tractor to another area after a couple of weeks.
As was defined in the beginning of this article, gardening is a most beneficial expenditure of your time, money and energy. Hopefully, you have found many tips and tricks to give you greater advantages from your own garden. Laughter is one of the best medicines, but gardening is one of the great therapies, with so many perks and pluses, it’s nearly impossible not to reap all of its many benefits!

The chicken coop is your chicken’s home, their palace, and you want to make sure you keep their coop in tip top shape to promote healthy and happy chickens. There are some things to consider when you are constructing a coop to make sure that you have happy chickens and you as the chicken farmer remain happy as well.
Consideration 1
Make sure that you construct a strong and secure coop to keep predators out. Make sure that you use a high quality chicken wire and don’t cut corners on your other building materials. Hawks, racoons, foxes, and many other predators will be sure to try to invade your coop and can wipe out your brood in one night.
Consideration 2
Many people also forget about one other predator. Rats. Rats will also raid your chicken coop and cause you problems if you don’t keep them out as well. The will burrow to try and get in so make sure you protect the floor of your coop as well. Rats will be drawn to eggs and the food that you provide your chickens.
Rats really love eggs so make sure that you provide the best protection possible by constructing a quality floor with buried wire or wood.
Consideration 3
Remember that your your chickens only protection from the element is the coop that you provide so make sure that you give the a roof and some protection from the wind and cold.
Consideration 4
You have to have somewhere for your chickens to sit. Roosting poles are a must for every chicken coop. You need about 2 inch round poles and figure 10 inches of space for each chicken that you have in the coop. You also need laying boxes. You can figure on one box per every 3 hens. You want them to be off of the ground and make sure you give your hens some privacy so they will be more productive.
Consideration 5
You need to make sure that you give your chickens plenty of room. You should figure at least 3 square feet per chicken. You should also make sure that you provide quality chicken feeders and waterers. Your chcikens will be me healthier and more productive with clean food and water. I suggest hanging chicken feeders and waterers about 6 to 8 inches off the ground.
Consideration 6
Make sure that you allow an easy way for you to get in and out of the coop but make sure that the door is secure enough that predators and rats cannot get through.
These are all important things to remember when building your chicken coop. Make sure that you use quality materials, a good building plan, and include quality chicken feeders and waterers.

When it comes to poultry farming there are many factors that influence feeding chickens. If you are considering becoming a poultry farmer you there are some things that you should consider that will affect your bottom line and feeding is a big one. If you plan on being successful in the poultry farming world you should go into business with a well thought out feeding plan. You should have a good idea of the amount of feed that your chickens will consume and some of the factors that will affect this are as follows.
A. Breed of Chicken- Depending on what breed of chicken you determine to raise your feed consumption can vary greatly. Of course the smaller breeds won’t need as much food as the larger breeds It also depends on if you are raising laying hens or chickens for consumption.
B: Activity- The more active your chickens are the more they will consume. If you have them free roaming vs being in a small pen they will of course consume more feed. This holds true whether you are raising chicks or keeping grown chickens.
C. Weather- The weather can have a huge effect on the amount of feed consumed. Generally speaking the colder the weather, the more food consumed. Chickens have to use their energy to stay warm in colder weather and this in turn drives out a higher feed consumption.
D. Quality of feed- This should go without saying but chicken feed is just like any other product that you may purchase. Some feed will be of better quality than others. Also, don assume because a feed costs more that it is better. Get the facts and do the research to determine what feed is better for your dollar.
I hope this gives you an idea of how to gauge the amount of feed that you chickens will require. Also, make sure to provide your chickens feed from a quality feeder. You can find some quality feeders at Amazon.com at great prices.

If you are looking for a chicken feeder that will be with you for years this is a great selection. Even thought the Litlle Giant 11Lbs Hanging Feederis made from plastic it is very durable and is sure to provide clean feed for your chickens for years to come. You can pick this great chicken feeder up at Amazon at a price that is sure to beat your local feed store .
Here is what some buyers are saying about this feeder.
Got this for my expanding chicks – now chickens. I did not hang it, but set it on the floor of the chicken house. Seems to operate fine. Just wish it had a cover, as in some cases among the chickens will get on top of it and . . . , right into the food. Very good news is that the other people do not definitely seem to care. Just me. Definitely simple to service – just dump a scoop or two within the container each and every day and you’re good to go. Beats the trough-type feeder I was working with.
